About the project.
Lifeline is an independent short film exploring the emotional aftermath of a breakup, loneliness and the difficulty of moving forward. The film follows a man struggling to come to terms with the end of a relationship. Told primarily through a surreal dream sequence, the story explores his internal conflict as he confronts memories of his past relationship, feelings of isolation and the emotions surrounding loss. Blending dreamlike imagery with moments of realism, Lifeline offers an intimate portrayal of heartbreak, vulnerability and the process of coming to terms with change.
The sound.
The sound design for Lifeline balances naturalistic production sound with more subjective elements to reflect the character's emotional and psychological state. During the dream sequence, I designed a tinnitus drone and heartbeat effect, introducing subtle layers of sound to draw the audience into the character's experience. These elements sit alongside more naturalistic audio, creating contrast between the world around him and what he is experiencing internally. On set, I operated the sound mixer, monitored recording levels and mic'd the actor to capture clear, consistent production audio. In post-production, I was responsible for syncing and mixing dialogue, alongside developing the film's sound design.
